Industry Case Study: Apache Gold Casino
Challenge
Situation: The original swimming pool at this casino resort had experienced extreme soil settlement to the point that the pool crack open and drained all the water out. The pool was condemned and had to be removed.
Challenges: To provide a deep foundation system that would transfer the required loads from the new pool to a depth below the layers of compressible soils. Caissons were considered but were not acceptable because of the presentence of expansive clays, which could cause the caissons to heave, causing damage to the structure. Helical Piles were decided to be the best choice for the new foundation system.
Solution
Solution: Arizona Foundation Solutions team worked with the project engineers to design a deep foundation system using Helical Piles for the construction of the new swimming pool. The piles were driven to depths of 50 to 60 feet to reach solid bearing strata. Rebar was then attached to the pile brackets, and the grade beams were poured. This provided a foundation system that would prevent the settlement issues that the old pool had experienced.
Conclusion: Helical Piles again prove to be the best solution when compressible soils present a construction challenge. Another successful project that created another happy client.
